When to visit Malta
If you’re looking to party hard in Malta, summer events will start in June and run until September time. This is also when some clubs open up, ready for everyone’s party holidays. July and August are the peak months so keep an eye out for the more popular events if you don’t want to miss out! If you’re still weighing up when to go, we’ve got some advice for the cheapest or the busiest time to go…
Cheapest
Typically the peak times are Easter and July to August, so if you want to save some pennies, June and September will be the cheapest months to go to Malta. But don’t worry, there are still plenty of great clubs and events to experience. It will probably be speedier service at the bar and more space to sunbathe at the beach – what’s not to love?
Busiest
For all the hottest summer events, be sure to book for July or August. It’s the best time to go if you love that lively, party crowd – events will be buzzing with like-minded party-harders for you to meet. You’ll be getting the best weather too, with temperatures up to 32℃ – perfect for tanning by the pool or on the beach!
Weather
With an average of 300 sunny days in Malta, and temperatures up to 31℃ in June to August, you’re pretty much guaranteed a perfect summer! Even the Summer nights remain quite warm which is a bonus! Although it never gets too cold, the weather starts to pick up around April so you’ve got a chance to come visit throughout the year.
Here are some tips for the weather in Malta:
-
In the day make sure you use sun cream and drink lots of water, especially if you’re going to be drinking.
-
If you want air-con for your room most hotels will have an additional cash charge which you can pay at reception. We recommend keeping it on throughout the day to cool your room and turning it off right before you sleep.

Travel Advice
Before you head out to Malta, make sure you have adequate travel and medical insurance. Different insurance providers cover for different things, so make sure you read what cover you will get carefully before just going for the cheapest option – nobody wants to be hit with a big medical bill for a minor accident.
Although this should not be used as a substitute for insurance, you should consider taking a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). All current EHIC cards are valid until their expiry dates. If your EHIC card has expired you will need to apply for the new Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC). In the unfortunate event of you falling ill on holiday, there are a number of places that you can seek medical help in Malta. For minor ailments, you can use the chemist and for more serious problems there are a number of medical centres around Malta which provide a 24-hour service to tourists and locals. Mater Dei Hospital is the largest health centre in Malta, situated in Msida.
Please be advised that most medical centres operate privately, which is why we recommend travel insurance. For emergencies you can call 112 or call 196 to go directly to ambulance services.
You will need an additional 6 months validity on your passport from the end date of your holiday. Plus your passport must not be more than 10 years old. For more info please visit the following government advice Visit Europe from 1 January 2021 – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
If you are in need of any police assistance, there is a police station located in every town in Malta. In cases of emergency, dial the emergency number 112 to be put directly through to police. A lot of the hotels in Malta have their own security guards, so should you need to report anything in or around your hotel, make sure you go to them.
You will find a number of ATMs in Malta, but before you use them, be sure to check with your bank how much they will charge you to withdraw, as most ATMs will charge you a transaction fee. A number of clubs, bars and restaurants allow you to pay by card, however not everywhere will, so be sure to have a combination of cash and card. You can also use prepaid currency cards when you stay which allow you to top up an amount before you leave and budget your spending. There are also new online banks that are perfect for when you go abroad as they allow you to withdraw a certain amount of money and use your card to a certain limit without any extra charges. Some of our reps use these cards too! Check which ones best suit you.
